Andreas Dienel alias Dienel
Andreas Dienel alias Dienel
Record collector since 1991 with DJ experience since 1993. Started collecting Jamaican Ska, Rock Steady and Reggae and extended his collecting field with American Soul some years later. He was already playing some of his Soul 45's in Lucerne at the Soul Weekender in 2012 and this time he will be on board to play some of his Rock Steady and Reggae vinyls.
Here a few well known events where Dienel had the pleasure to play Jamaican sounds:
Potsdam Ska Festival GER (back in the 90's), Soul Weekender Dresden GER, Ska & Soul Weekender Los Angeles USA, Treasure Sounds Club Hamburg GER, Get Ready Club Oslo NOR, Summer Safari 60's Weekender GER, Soul & Reggae Weekender Leipzig GER, Bollerama Berlin GER...
Here are 5 of his long time favourites he will definitely bring with him in the box:
Johnny & The Attractions - Anything You Want
Winston Hinds - Cool Down
Kingstonians - I Make A Woman
Delroy Wilson - This Life Make Me
Techniques - Man Of My Word
Anna found her way to the decks by accident when a local DJ at a club she was attending, left to go to the toilet and didn’t come back. She stepped up and tried to do something with the records the guy had left behind. Surprisingly enough the crowd liked what she did and the owner of the venue asked her to do it again soon.
So she started to buy the so called black gold and quickly fell in love. For several years she ran one night a week, either in a bar in her hometown (Colors Passau) or in some places in South Germany, even though that meant sleeping in the car sometimes. She also ran the Innkraut Soulclub with Kriss Kremig (Funk und Liebe) for about three years and his intense addiction to soul music was a big influence to her. Once she dipped a toe into the magic world of these music lovers at her first Soul Weekender everything changed.
Nevertheless, Anna knows no boundaries, which means she wants to know, listen and feel what’s possible creatively with records in general. That’s why she also enjoys electronic music in addition to soul. Having moved to Lucerne she found a place with an enthusiastic music scene across all ages and genres, mainly circling around Klub Kegelbahn and it’s new spin-off Kaffee Kind, where she now runs the monthly night „Soul, my dear?“.
As Anna loves & lives the nightlife and rather prefers longer sets as well, it took some time to persuade her, playing during the day. It was worth the effort, as you will hear.

We got to know Flo when he moved into Henning’s old flat. An acquaintance, as they occur only in movies. And how often in movies, there's also with Flo a happy ending.
Flo Matt a.k.a. Buddy Flo has not only the flexibility, which he proudly shows off at the Soul Yoga Sessions but also a nose for the exquisite black gold. He particularly likes the Rrrolitas that really hit deep into the heart and play on one's heart strings. But in his collection you’ll also find some Modern Soul mover that make you throw your hands and clothes in the air.
Africano - Satisfactorize Your Mind
Trinikas - Remember Me
Larry McGee Revolution - The Burg
Stanley Ivory - Gotta Find My Baby
Sons Of The Kingdom - Hey There
If good taste lies on variety, Cristina is an explosion of rich flavours. Our guest is one of the most eclectic and requested DJs: 60s and 70s soul, rhythm and blues, latin grooves... together or not, are the main ingredients of her recipe. She’s proved her versatility both in weekenders –Soul4Real (Bilbao), S.O.U.L. (Asturias), Black Talk (Valencia), Say it loud! (Santiago de Compostela), Rimini Mod Weekender (Rimini, IT)-, in regular clubs –45 Degrees (Hamburg, GER), S.M.A.R.T. (Madrid), Peanut Duck (Valencia), Home Cookin’ (La Rochelle, FR), The Cellar (Milano, IT), One Room Paradise (Oberhausen, GER), No Way Out (Manchester, UK), Pandora’s Box (Boston, USA)–, and also in festivals –Euro Ye Ye (Gijon, SP), Le Beat Bespoke (London, UK), Funtastic Dracula Carnival (Valencia, SP)-. In Barcelona she combines her residency in THE BOILER rhythm & soul club and in MOVIN’ ON soul club, both clubs of which she’s co-promoter.
These spins will probably following Cristina to Lucerne:
THE CHICAGO GANGSTERS - Feel like making love - Gold Plate
EVINHA - Esperar pra ver - Odeon
BLACK STASH - Mighty Love Man Part 1 - Sevilla
CURTIS, THE BROTHERS - You Make Everything Better - Bell
RICHARD ROGERS - Can't Stop Loving You - Sam
SHARON REDD - Can you handle it - Prelude
TRUE IMAGE - Keep me dancing – Wilkerr
CAROL HAHN - Do your best - Nickel
Everything started for me when I received my first record player for my 10th birthday. This was the catalyst for a long and continuous record collecting obsession.
From this obsession I began co-promoting a monthly event in my home town called "Soul Train", which ran for 5 years. This lead to me being fortunate enough to be asked at some upfront events home and abroad, including Different Strokes, Go Go Children, Good Good Feeling, Quality of Soul, True Soul, Hip City Soul Club, Hamburg Soul Weekender and South Of France Soul Weekender.
I have always loved (and still do) going to allnighters, weekenders and alldayers as you get a very diverse range of music. I am also a co-promoter involved with "Lets Dance Some Mo", which is based in Chester and "The Manchester Soul Weekender".
My philosophy is to collect and play records that I believe in. This does cover a very wide range of Soul music... I have a very eclectic taste. Also I love to dance and see people dancing and get totally wrapped up in the music.
My current top 5 plays are:
Boco - Running The Mardi Gras
The Vontels – Ta Hula Hoop
Point Blank - Don’t Go No Further
Wayne Carter – Mad Mouth Woman
Bob Meyer – I Only Get That Feeling
DJ Pesa, ladies and gentlemen!
It all started with granny’s record player and his parents’ collection. Beatles, Stones, The Who and The Doors were those to inflame his passion for music of the 60s and 70s. Rock music was quickly followed up by Soul, Funk, Jazz and Rap.
For 20 years now he is known as DJ Pesa. Though DJing became a minor matter for the family father his main focus is diggin’ deeply in crates for the treasured vinyl.
Since 2012 he is hosting his own radio show «Lost&Found» on national radio station SRF Virus. He loves to discover his own forgotten records in his collection while preparing his shows and that he can play stuff that wouldn’t be played on any dancefloor.
People shouldn’t ask him about the number of records he owns cause he doesn’t know - as most of addicted collectors don’t! Cause the answer is always the same: «It’s still not enough!»
We’re very much looking forward to Pesa DJing at the NTY cause we’re absolutely thankful for his support and his understanding of the craziness of collecting vinyl.
Fabian is based in Basel and record collector since school days. Mainly into classic 60s Northern Soul, Detroit, mid-tempo and beat ballads but also genres such as Early Reggae and 6Ts Beat.
Not really a DJ but rather listener and collector, he loves his Juke Box and entertaining his neighbours with far too loud and much too good music. It is what's in the grooves that counts!
Top of Fabian's box:
Jock Mitchell - Not a chance in a million (Impact)
The Cautions - No other way (Shrine)
Bobby Kline - Say something nice to me (MB)
Jimmy Wallace - I’ll be back (Alpha)
Little Nicky Soul - I wanted to tell you (Shee)
"I started collecting black soul 45s and LPs around 20 years ago and began djing at mod and northern soul events in Puglia in the year 2000. Naturally, my taste has changed over the years from loving R&B to classic Northern with a brief flirt with Modern Soul.
Nowadays, my sets are an eclectic mix of Crossover soul, Northern and Funk. For two years in Milan, I was co-partner of Milano Town Souldiers and in November, I will be the organizer and resident of Dig This! Soul Alldayer.
I have djed in various Allnighters in Italy and in Europe such as Let’s Boogaloo, Milano Funk&Soul, Cannonball Weekender, Hang On, Santeria Soul Alldayer, Shanty Town, Soul Collective Abeerdeen, Different Strokes in Manchester, Soul at the Telegraph in Newcastle as well as many others.
I have also a number of mixes on mixcloud with a series called: 'My Personal Soul Club'
In my spare time I am a graphic designer and have designed album covers for artists such as: Calibro 35, Trio Valore, Dojo Cuts, The Liberators, Hannah Williams, Diplomats of Solid Sound, The Tibbs, Big Lee Dowell, and compilations like Soulshaker and Let’s Boogaloo as well as numerous flyers and 45 labels."
Fabio's favourite 5 tracks at the moment:
- The Marlboros: (My Love Was A) Sunny Day
- Darondo Pulliam: How I Got Over
- Nancy: Trying To Keep From Crying
- The Marlins: Don't You Know
- Softones: Guns
Flo Dalton... and there's nothing else left to say.
This man actually moved to Switzerland because of its cheese and for some specific birds he likes to watch. After living here for a few days even the bus drivers started welcoming him by name and high-fiving his bald head. Besides that he spins some heavily scratched records with Rocksteady, Reggae and Mariachi on them. He loves to dance to House and knows every Techno track by heart (which he tries to sing along).
As a proper member of the Swiss Soul Club cranking crew he's also in charge of the Off Beat Floor which you'll be able to enjoy on Friday night.
Phuoc Ngo a.k.a. is one of the organisers of the NOT TOO YOUNG Swiss Soul Weekender and the busiest Soul Traveler we know. He loves fancy hotels and uptempo Soul but recently he had to confess that he gets more and more into Modern Soul. So we will be very excited to listen to his sets during the 6th edition of NTY...
"Funky Fever" is a party label which takes place every first Saturday of the month in Lucerne. The series was launched nearly 20 years ago in the Bar 57 with Dj Black Virus and experienced - thanks to DJ Murphy - its revival in the Bar 59.
Now Funky Fever has been inviting for over 7 years almost all Funk and Soul DJs from Switzerland as a guest. Even some international DJs rocked the turntables, such as Tobias Kyrmaier (DE), Mr. Thing (UK), Skeme Richards (US), Amir Abdullah (US), Amerigo Gazeway (US) or Double D (DE).
Another highlights were the performances by the bands "Breakestra» (US), the "Mighty Mocambos» (DE) and the "James Brown Tribute Show".
Behind the label are the vinyl freaks DJ Murphy, Dan and Wab who you can meet for a chat with beer also every Wednesday in the Haifish Bar in Lucerne (or at the Co-Mix Remix record store of course). The Funky Fever lives the motto "Save The Vinyl" and remains an event for Funk and Soul freaks, for breakdancers, for old school rap lovers and for those who like to move to Black Music. Boom!
Deep, deep thanks from our music-lover-hearts for the long lasting support that we get from those young and good-looking men....
Giulia Medi Klock is a records refugee who left Italy behind to experience some quality vinyl influenced night life in Berlin. Eventually she ended up being one of the many DJ-Slaves, the city is so famous for ... spending night over night playing seven hour sets in just some Bar next door. These years heritage have left their visible traces until today and found massive expression in the shape of her strong and huge biceps, that comes from carrying the heavy record bags four times a week to the fifth floor with no elevator in the building. More interesting for the Swiss Soul Weekender is indeed her widely spreaded interest in music, earned by playing everything, from ’ 77 Punk Bars to Northern Soul Clubs. After years of giving herself away for every opportunity to try herself musicwise, she eventually found a steady home as Thorsten Hunds’ right hand at his infamous „The Record Store“ in Berlin Mitte in 2012. By that time, she also became one of the regular DJs at Europes Mecca for fifties and sixties Music, The Bassy Cowboy Club, known there under the name of Jungle Giulia.
Giulia's current top 5 spins:
-Eugene Davis "Ruby" (Flaming Arrow)
-Charlie Hodges "The day he made you" (Calla)
-Dyke and the Blazers "Runaway people" (Original Sound)
-The Electrodes "Go Away" (Fran)
-Gospel Six "God done got tired" (Checker)
"Hi all, I started djing about 11/12 years ago now, collecting mainly 60's Soul and R'n'B from the start, and playing records in local clubs of my city.
In the last years I started to appreciate the sweet and deep side of Soul, late 60's and 70's funky Soul, Gospel tinged tunes, Latin Boogaloo, it can be music for the legs, for the heart or for the ears pleasure, and that's what I play now most.
I'm coresident and cofounder of Santeria Soul Alldayer since 2012, a monthly Soul Club based in Milan, and I had the pleasure of playing records in such great Italian Mod or Soul gigs like All Saints Mod Holiday, Dance with the Devil, Cannonball Soul Weekender, or in foreign ones like Teen Scene, Le Clean Cut, Boiler Club etc.
I'm really excited and can't wait for oncoming experience in NTY in beautiful Lucerne!"
Giuseppe's current top 5 spins are:
Bold Breed - Let Me Down Easy
Jason - Clear Eyes
C.R.A.C. - You're Too Much
Bibleway Harmonizers - Trouble of This World
Mosaic Tweed - Comin' Home
"As many of my Soul mates, I set in my record journey by collecting 70s Powerpop/Mod/Punk and 60s Garage. Many moons ago I began dj-ing and organizing some wild parties in Berlin,
since then I have been specializing in collecting Northern & Modern Soul. From my today's view - I love any kind of soulful music, to begin with 60s R&B/Soul up to soulful House as well as great current releases.
Four years ago we started promoting bigger events under the flag of «Soul’d Up - Berlin», so twice a year we celebrate an Alldayer & Allnighter with an international dj line-up, up-coming both are 17th/18th November'17 & 11th/12th May'18, incl. Friday Warm up.
I'm so looking forward to be back at NTY, a matter truly close to my heart. My passion is to play across-the-board soulful tunes for your dancing & listening pleasure!"
Here are a few current faves Hendrik most probably will give a spin:
Tommy Trojan – Leo I Am [JC]
Alexander Gipson - I Still Love You [Alexius 1]
High Voltage - I Want You In My Life [Chekmate]
Jus' Us – Just Us Together [Annthonette]
Mike McCain - Someday [Tiki]
Imke Keyssler aka Ada Loveshake is a Hamburg based (rare) soul collector and occasional DJ.
She used to be member of the all-female-deejay-collective «45° Degrees Soul Club Hamburg» with a regular Nighter at Molotow Club Hamburg. She's been deejaying at various european weekender in recent years, such as Stockholm, Barcelona, Bilbao, Dresden and of course Not Too Young numero five.
Nowadays she's part of the mixed styles radio collective ‚Das Draht’ and hosts her own soul radio show every two months at byte.fm Hamburg.
She loves and plays all styles of soulful music, 60s as well as 70s and a bit of 80s and contemporary recordings - as long as a tune gets her it needs a place in the box!
Current five super love sounds:
Ernie Johnson – Disco Music Keep On Going On (BISCUIT)
Backyard Construction – I Want You Lovin (B.I.C. PRODUCTIONS)
Gloria Walker – My Precious Love (PEOPLE)
Carmelita - Isn't it Lonely (CARMEN)
Bonnevilles – I’ll be Right There (NOW RECORDS)
«I'm currently honoured to be one of the residents at the 6T’s Rhythm & Soul Allnighter at the 100 Club, and am also one third of the VaVaVoom allnighters (albeit a Johnny Latecomer to an already successful setup). I’ve also been a regular guest at Ollie Lailey’s 'Crystal Palace Soul' nights in South London.
Musically I'm a big fan of blues & soul in all of its forms, from 60's soul, funk, r&b, and rocksteady to more contemporary stuff, such as soulful house. I've always been drawn to slightly unusual records - things that have a distinctive vibe to them. My good friend Ollie introduced me to soul music when we were in our late teens - our first trip to the 100 Club was a real musical awakening - we'd never heard such brilliant unknown soul tracks before. These were unissued or dog rare records of the time such as Luther Ingram, the Charmaines, Jean Carter, so on and so forth. I try to mix a variety of styles into a set - 60s’ soul with crossover, funkier sounds and even a touch of r’n’b, and hopefully they work together as seamlessly as possible!»
Joel's current top 5 spins:
Bernetia Miller - You Can Tell Me Goodbye - Soul Groovers
Claude & The Brotherhood - What You Gonna Do For Me - Trans World Sound
Antonio Castro - W.E.L.F.A.R.E - Universal International
Keith Curtiss - Got To Keep You Baby - Smoke
Five Chances - Stranger I Love You - Finch
"One third of The Flipside from Manchester, a night specialising in forgotten B-sides of the sweet, deep and crossover varieties. I like all kinds of soul, (which I think is reflected in my picks below), over the past couple of years I've been lucky enough to play at some of the best nights around and can't wait for my first trip to NTY."
Mark's current 'always in the box' tunes:
Sonya Spence - Let Love Flow On
Talmadge Armstrong - Give It Up
Jerri Jackson - I Can Almost Believe
Phil Brown - I Know He's Watching
J.T. Allen - Working Hard
Hi, I’m Martin Erdmann. Instead of an old fashioned self-description I created this mad lib. Fill out the blanks and figure out who I am for yourself:
Martin Erdmann was born and raised in Lucerne Switzerland which is a very _____ place to live. He started to play his records in public in 2005 to impress _____. Unfortunately that didn’t work out. Probably because he played barbaric tunes like _____ and, Lord have mercy, _____. At least he got _____ for free. That’s why he’s still around, playing music out of different genres like _____, _____ and of course _____. If you didn’t already have the _____ to meet Martin Erdmann in person, you’ll recognize him by his totally rad catchphrases like _____ or _____. He’s very ____ to play for you some proper music at the NTY-Sunday-Alldayer. Feel free to bring him back to life with a refreshing drink. He prefers _____, ______ and not to forget _____.
Here are some tunes I’m going to play:
1. Ernie Washington – Lonesome Shack
2. Ann Caudell – Longing for You
3. The Demons – Going to the Dance
4. Lucille Mathis – I’m Not Your Regular Woman
5. Lee Moses – Bad Girl
Martin started out as a hip hop DJ and self confessed rap nerd over 15 years ago, after digging deeper into the sample / breaks side of hip hop he fell into the rabbit hole that is soul music and has been happily dwelling there ever since. He's been lucky enough to play all over the UK and more recently across Europe and the US. He co-runs The Flipside in Manchester, a night dedicated to playing Sweet Soul, Deep Soul and Crossover.
Current Top 5
Spins Stevens and Foster - I wanna be love (Jerri)
The Pretenders- Just be yourself (Carnival)

Pazi the Fist is resident DJ of the first hour of SMART Lion Zurich. Although the term «Fist» can associate intolerance, Andy is diverse in its musical interest: Northern Soul to Reggae to Ska, all these styles have a space in his collection and in his DJ sets. Again he will let us skank on the Offbeat Floor on Friday night.
Gimme a bunch of mates, who want to share their passion for original Reggae & Soul at the best club on this planet, Sedel - The Club in our home town Luzern. Rude Attack was born! After some do's, we went into promoting gigs. Our aim was to present contemporary bands, which keep the 60's Ska/Reggae/Soul flag flying. After some years unfortunately, our original core member Andy left the crew. It was quite a loss, so the remaining members Witschi and Jefy decided to stop as gig promoter. So, we went back to put on Reggae & Soul do's with the intention to invite one (international) guest DJ each and every do. Over the years and with our countless trips to the UK, the wish to build an own Sound System grew more and more. Finally, in 2014 we managed to realise our dream together with Rouven, another long-term Reggae aficionado. Now, it's 2018 and the Rude Attack train keeps on rolling, already for 18 years!
We are looking forward to set up our Sound on the Off Beat floor and sharing the decks together with MS Dienel!
Well, enough of the chatter, just spin that platter ...
Al T. Joe - Stop Look And Listen (UK Wasp)
Junior Murvin - Chatty Chatty aka Glendevon Special (JA Pre)
Octaves - The Battle (UK Coxsone)
Orville Wood - Lose A Very Good Man (JA Pre)
Vincent Gordon & Tommy McCook - Fisherman Special (JA Globe International)
Many moons ago, when PodOmatic ruled the nation, Dr Reggay & Mr Soul somehow managed to broadcast 10 episodes from the legendary Studio S, this link still seems to be working:
Lucerne’s Rare-Soul-crafters number one and flagship of the Swiss Soul Club. The party label stands for vinyl music of the 60’s/ 70’s/ 80’s dished up by the self-styled but definitely treasured nerds Henning Boogali (f.k.a. Boogaloo) and Emel Ilter. «Strictly-original»-proved.
They are into soul music you might come up against scarcely, mostly preferring obscure tracks. Still they appreciate the classical 60’s (Northern) Soul sound and create a respectable mixture of oddish but catchy styles. They are two personalities who have bats in the belfry without any doubt – which they proudly present behind the DJ decks while DJing back-to-back, doing some proper Four Tops moves.
Will has been into Soul since his mid teens and an avid album only collector for many years but has only been dj’ing for about 6 years at various niters, aldayers, soul nights. His first alniter dj spot was at Burnley run by Sean Haydon and Carl Heard in January 2011. Since then he has dj'ed in UK venues such as Radcliffe, Rugby, Different Strokes, Empty Bottles, Black Bee, Horse & Groom, DAB Soul Weekender and others. He was a resident at A Taste Of Honey for a few years.
Will has also had the pleasure to dj in Hamburg, Vienna, Gent, Berlin and Barcelona in the last few years.
Will says about himself "I have always been open minded and forward thinking in my music and like to try and introduce new tunes to people from my albums whither it’s gritty soul/funky edge or 60’s/70’s crossover". A great fella who's already been joining us in Lucerne several times. Now he's going to share his records with us!
Top 5 Spins from Will's LPs, that he’ll probably be playing:
1. Idris Muhammad - I’m A Believer (extended Lp cut)
2. Alice Clark - Hey Girl
3. New Don Ellis Band - Send My Baby Back (stunning vocals from Patti Allen)
4. Directions Band – I Want To Be Your Special Man
5. Odyssey – Battened Ships
Will's Charity CDs evolve from the Dab of Soul radio shows. Check them out!
